WEB DESIGN

How Fishhook builds websites.

Fishhook is a St. Petersburg digital practice. Web design, development, SEO, and CRM live in a single build instead of being handed off between vendors. This page is the depth version: what we make, how we make it, and where we work.

OUR PERSPECTIVE

Design, development, and SEO specified as one build.

A site that ranks at launch is a site whose schema was drawn on the same whiteboard as the visual design. Page speed picked the framework. The CMS choice was made by the same people who own the marketing site day-to-day. The pieces only fit when the same people specify them at the same time.

Fishhook runs design, development, and SEO under one roof. The designer knows what the framework can render, the developer knows what the SEO needs, and the SEO is involved before a single layout is mocked. The site works at launch because of it.

We've been doing this from St. Petersburg since 2020. 5.0 on Google, an office on 49th Street, the same phone number we had on day one. The kind of agency that answers when you call, every year.

More about the practice

WHAT WE BUILD

Four kinds of project, one method.

Most engagements fall into one of four shapes. The stack and the process stay the same. What changes is scope and which parts of the build need the most attention.

Custom website builds.

From-scratch sites for businesses launching or rebranding. We design the system, write the code, and ship a site you can run yourself. Used most often by service businesses, professional practices, and DTC brands that have outgrown a template.

Redesigns and migrations.

The most common engagement. Your current site exists, it's just embarrassing. We rebuild it with the URL structure preserved, redirects in place, and the SEO equity carried forward. Launch day moves traffic, not loses it.

Landing pages.

Single-page builds for paid campaigns, product launches, or seasonal pushes. Built for one job and measured by one number. Typically lives at /campaign/ or as a subdomain.

Lead-generation sites.

Built for the inbound funnel. Forms wired to your CRM, follow-up automations on a schedule, qualified-vs-noise sorting from the moment a lead hits the inbox. The site is part of the sales operation, not separate from it.

OUR STACK

Boring tech. Good outcomes.

We pick tools your team can run after we leave. No exotic stacks, no proprietary lock-in, no platform you've never heard of running the marketing site of a serious business.

APPROACH
Two paths: WordPress, or custom-built from scratch. WordPress when your team wants a familiar editor and a deep plugin ecosystem. Custom when WordPress would be a constraint, or when you'd rather not be locked into a template. We pick the approach that fits how your team will operate the site, not the technology we're most excited about.
HOSTING
Managed hosting tuned to the build. WordPress sites land on managed WordPress hosting; custom builds land on modern edge-served hosting. Edge caching, global CDN, and an SLA are non-negotiable in either case.
PERFORMANCE TARGETS
Under two seconds to interactive on a mid-range phone over a 4G connection wherever the build allows. Page speed audited against Google's Core Web Vitals targets. Images compressed and served as WebP. Fonts subset and self-hosted when possible.
ACCESSIBILITY
WCAG 2.1 AA as a floor, not a ceiling. Color contrast verified, focus states visible, keyboard navigation complete. We test with the actual screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver), not just an automated scan.
TECHNICAL SEO
Schema markup, semantic HTML, sitemap auto-generated, robots.txt curated, page-speed budgets enforced in build. We treat technical SEO as part of the build, not a separate engagement.
CMS
Whichever CMS your team will actually use. WordPress for teams that want a familiar editor and the plugin ecosystem to match. Custom-built when WordPress would be a constraint or you'd rather edit content through a workflow your developers run. The right answer is the one your team uses without calling us.
QUESTIONS

Common questions about our approach.

What kinds of websites does Fishhook build?
Four main categories: custom from-scratch builds for businesses launching or rebranding, redesigns and migrations of existing sites with SEO equity preserved, single-page landing pages for campaigns, and lead-generation sites wired to a CRM. All four use the same stack and process; the scope is what varies.
What's different about how you approach web design?
Design, development, and SEO are scoped together as one build. Each part is shaped knowing what the others are doing: schema in the architecture, page speed in the framework choice, CMS fit in the design pass. The people who plan it are the people who build it, and the owner stays accessible after handoff.
Which platforms do you build on?
Two paths. WordPress when your team wants a familiar editor and a deep plugin ecosystem. Custom-built from scratch when WordPress would be a constraint or you'd rather not be locked into a template. We talk through which one fits your situation on the discovery call.
Do you build ecommerce sites?
Yes, for small to mid-sized catalogs. Shopify, WooCommerce, and headless Shopify with a custom frontend are the most common patterns. For large enterprise catalogs we'll be honest and refer you to a specialist.
Do you also handle SEO, CRM, and marketing automation?
Yes. They live in the same practice as web design and are baked into every build. The integrated approach is the differentiator. See our SEO, CRM, and AI Consulting service pages for the full picture.
Where are you based and where do you work?
Our office is at 3131 49th Street North in St. Petersburg, FL. Most of our work is across Pinellas County and the Tampa Bay area. Remote engagements anywhere in the US. See the city pages above for region-specific information.
What does a web design project cost?
Project-based and scoped after the discovery call. Most small and mid-sized business builds fall between a few thousand and the mid five figures depending on page count, integrations, and content scope. You get a fixed quote in writing before any work begins.
What's the first step to working with you?
A 30-minute discovery call. We listen to the business, then send a written memo within 48 hours: what we heard, what we'd recommend, what we'd decline. You read it before you sign anything.
